Podcasts

"A podcast is an audio or video file archived on the Internet in such a way that it can be automatically accessed by a personal computer, downloaded and transferred to a portable MP3 player" (Department of Education, 2010, p.1). In the classroom this can be a great tool as there are many great podcast on the Internet directed at students. As a teacher you can also publish your own podcast and make it available to your students. This will make it more fun and they can access it away from school. "Creating a podcast allows students to share learning experiences. It provides them with a world-wide audience that makes learning meaningful and assessment authentic. Teachers can use the technology to provide additional and revision material to students to download and review at a time that suits them. The flexibility that such time-shifting offers makes podcasting a valuable educational tool" (Department of Education, 2010, p.3).
